A storming opening half hour created the platform for South Africa's 28-8 win over Australia in an ill-tempered Rugby Championship match in Cape Town - although the bonus point the Springboks desperately sought eluded them.
The home side scored three tries, one each to hooker Adriaan Strauss, fullback Zane Kirchner and wing Willie le Roux, while Australia's only try came from debutant winger Chris Feauai-Sautia with two minutes remaining.
The match flared up several times with four yellow cards issued, two each to both side.
