The Newcastle Knights league player Danny Buderus has been cleared of serious injury to his head and neck but will have more scans on his back following Saturday's NRL semi-final against the Sydney Roosters.

The retiring Newcastle great returned home yesterday after spending Saturday night in a Sydney, having been taken off on a medicab when he was knocked out making a tackle on the Roosters forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

There are still concerns about Buderus's lower back which was operated on twice earlier this year.

Meanwhile Newcastle's coach Wayne Bennett confirmed that he's staying with the club, reminding the media that he never said he was going anywhere.
