The Springboks have recalled the uncapped lock Franco van der Merwe to their squad for this weekend's Rugby Championship decider against the All Blacks at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.
The Golden Lions forward replaces his namesake Flip van der Merwe, who has been suspended for striking Wallabies winger Joe Tomane with his forearm in Cape Town last weekend.
Franco van der Merwe has been a regular Springboks squad member since his first call-up in June last year, but he has yet to be given a cap.
Midfield back JJ Engelbrecht is under an injury cloud and will have to pass a fitness test later in the week.
