6:07 am on 27 July 2009

The Ferrari drive Felipe Massa is being kept under sedation for 48 hours 9in a Budapest military hospital following his freak accident during practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Last year's world championship runner-up was struck on the head by a piece of flying debris during qualifying at the weekend, and he's undergone brain surgery.

Massa was brought out of his induced coma briefly when his family arrived at the hospital last night, and while doctors say while the indicators are reassuring, he remains in an "acute phase" of his treatment.
