Socceroos coach sacked after France humiliation

The Australian football coach Holger Osieck has lost his job after the socceroos were beaten 6-0 by France in an international friendly in Paris this morning.

Although Australia have already qualified for next year's World Cup finals, the French defeat followed another 6-nil humiliation at the hands of Brazil last month.

The Australian Football Federation say the sacking is not just as a result of the successive defeats but also of a lacklustre World Cup qualifying campaign during which Australia managed just three wins from eight matches.

Osieck's assistant Aurelio Vidmar will act as caretaker coach for a friendly against Canada in London on Tuesday.
