Makos end Turbos' hopes

7:27 pm on 13 October 2013

Tasman have thrashed Manawatu 57-14 in Blenheim to end the Turbos' hopes of a playoffs place in the provincial rugby Championship.

Needing a win or at least two bonus points to unseat Southland for a place in the semi-finals against Tasman, the Makos were far too strong at Lansdowne Park, scoring eight tries to two.

Tasman led only 17-14 at half-time but stepped it up after the break, keeping Manawatu scoreless.

The Makos have already wrapped up home advantage through the playoffs.

First five-eighths Marty Banks set a new individual points scoring record in a season for Tasman with 27 points, from two tries, six conversions and a penalty goal, surpassing the previous best mark of 116, set by Andrew Goodman.
