The new Wellington Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick is disappointed his side didn't come away with a point after they conceded a stoppage-time goal to lose 2-1 to Brisbane in their opening A-League match in the capital.
The Phoenix were without their All Whites and half their starting side was on debut.
Stein Huysegems scored for the home side in the first-half, however Brisbane scored at the beginning and end of the second half to take the points.
Merrick says his boys are still learning what it takes to grind out a result because they should have ground out a point.
However, Merrick remains optimistic about the Phoenix's chances this season after promising debuts for a number of players.
The Phoenix are at West Sydney next weekend.
