Tall Blacks suffer third-quarter meltdown

The New Zealand men's basketball team has suffered another heavy defeat on their eight-game European tour, going down 98-76 in the first of two matches in Belgium.

It was a poor third quarter that cost them today, the score blowing out from a three-point gap at the half to a 14-point deficit going into the last stretch.

Belgium then won the last quarter by eight to go out 22-point winners.

Shooting guard Kirk Penney again topscored for the Tall Blacks with 28 points while Tom Abercrombie was the only other New Zealander in double figures, shooting 11 as their offence again faltered in the defeat in Oostende.
