The former world tennis number one Roger Federer has won his first round match at the Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel, as he attempts to secure his place in the season-ending ATP Finals.
The winner of 17-grand slam titles, who is now ranked 8 in the world, has beaten Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in straight sets.
Federer has admitted making serious errors in his planning which contributed to a disastrous 2013 campaign, which included just one title and he failed to make a final in any of the grand slam events.
Rene Stauffer, who has written a number of books about Federer, believes he'll play on for a while yet....

Federer is currently the 8th ranked player for the ATP finals and needs good results this week in Basel and next week in Paris to secure his place in the event he has won 6 times.
