Kangaroos hoping Sonny Bill Williams can help them win World Cup

The Australian rugby league side is banking on Kiwis star Sonny Bill Williams to help them in their bid to win the Rugby League world cup.

As overwhelming favourites win the trophy for a tenth time skipper Cameron Smith is hoping the sideshow surrounding Williams could allow the Kangaroos to enjoy some time away from the spotlight.

The dual international Williams is the headline act of the tournament and has attracted plenty of media attention particularly after initially ruling himself out of the tournament only to back track and then be included in the squad.

Smith says that could work in favour of Australia, the perennial tournament favourites who are used to shouldering much of the publicity, pressure and scrutiny.
