One match ban for Sam Burgess

The England league prop Sam Burgess appears to have got off lightly with a one-game suspension for his high tackle on Australia's Sam Thaiday in the opening match at the Rugby League World Cup in Cardiff at the weekend.

The South Sydney NRL star was found guilty of a swinging arm that resulted in Thaiday's departure from the field with concussion, and he's in doubt for the Kangaroos match against Fiji this weekend.

There had been calls for Burgess to be banned for the rest of the tournament over the incident.

Papua New Guinea's Paul Aiton has also been given a one-match suspension for a high tackle in the Kumuls' one-point loss to France.
