The former Kiwis winger Kalifa Faifai Loa doesn't think the presence of former coach Neil Henry will derail his attempt to rebuild his National Rugby League career.

After playing just seven games for North Queensland in this year, the 23-year-old asked the club for an early release from his contract.

On Monday he joined Gold Coast on a two-year-deal, admitting his time with the Cowboys hadn't ended well and he was keen for a fresh start.

The move means Faifai Loa will link up again with Henry, after the former Cowboys coach joined the Titans as an assistant coach in the off-season.
