Burgess accepts one match ban

The England league prop Sam Burgess has accepted his one-match ban for the high tackle that floored the Kangaroos forward Sam Thaiday in their opening game at the Rugby League World Cup at the weekend.

Some pundits thought the South Sydney NRL star could have been sent off, and others suggested he could have been banned for several games, threatening his involvement in the rest of the tournament.

Burgess has a poor disciplinary record in the NRL and was suspended three times last season, but domestic records are not taken into account at the World Cup.
