Hockey match called off because of flooded turf

6:06 am on 1 November 2013

The trans-Tasman clash between the New Zealand and Australian men's hockey team was postponed when the Stratford turf was flooded following rain.

The Oceania Cup clash will now be played this morning.

Organisers decided to stop all action shortly after the Black Sticks women had beaten Papua New Guinea 25-nil.

The rain along with a nasty wind chill made conditions unplayable.

Meanwhile in just her second game for New Zealand, Canterbury striker Sophie Cocks made a huge impression on the scorecard with six goals in the match against PNG, while Gemma Flynn and Anita Punt both scored four goals each and Petrea Webster and Krystal Forgesson recorded hat-tricks.

Today is a rest day at the Oceania Cup, aside from the replay of the Black Sticks Men versus Australia game.

The Black Sticks Men and Women are both up against Samoa tomorrow.
