New Zealand Olympian Nick Willis has won the New York Marathon Dash to the Finish, a five-kilometre race run before the main event.
Willis outsprinted Kenyan Sam Chelanga to win narrowly in a time of 13 minutes and 46 seconds, the same time credited Chelanga.
Third was American Aaron Braun, a further three seconds back in third.
Willis' time was a new race record.
With half a kilometre to go, Willis found himself about 50 metres behind Chelanga and Braun but fought back for a seemingly improbable victory.
Willis had recently won in New York, with victory in the Fifth Avenue Mile in September.
