The New Zealand Warriors rugby league club have signed promising Melbourne halfback James Maloney following Stacey Jones's decision last week to hang up his boots in 2010.

Chief executive Wayne Scurrah confirmed the 23-year-old, who has made four NRL appearances for the Storm this year, has been signed on a two-year contract with an option for a third season in 2012.

Apart from Maloney and new signing Brett Seymour, the Warriors' other contenders in the halves next season include Joel Moon, Isaac John and Aaron Heremaia.
