Mortlock in hospital as Wallabies sink in Cape Town

6:18 pm on 9 August 2009

Stirling Mortlock's in hospital after the Springboks' clinical third straight Tri Nations win in Cape Town.

It's feared the Wallabies captain may have broken his leg as the world cup holders extended Australia's losing run at Newlands to 17 years with the 29-17 dismantling at the feet of superboot Morne Steyn, who kicked 24 points.

Ill discipline cost the Wallabies dearly.

For a 10-minute period either side of half-time they were reduced to 13 men following the sin-binnings of Matt Giteau and Richard Brown, while George Smith became Australia's third player yellow-carded in the dying stages of the match.
