Away wins for City, Waitakere to kick off Premiership

Auckland City have thrashed Team Wellington 4-1 in the capital to take the first-round lead in the national football Premiership.

Auckland's arch-rivals Waitakere United also won away, 3-nil over Southern United in the indoor Dunedin stadium.

Waikato Bay of Plenty United also beat visitors Canterbury United 2-1 in Rotorua to record a winning start under the new name. As Waikato FC, the side had won just five of their last 28 games.
