Tour opener ends in a draw for NZ cricketers

The New Zealand cricketers have drawn their Sri Lankan tour opener against a Development side in Colombo.

The Black Caps were unable to pick up the last 4 local wickets as they finished on 257 for 6 chasing 335 to win.

Despite being unable to take the win the captain Daniel Vettori was pleased overall with an solid workout with both bat and ball - and the chance to acclimatise to local

conditions.

Best of the New Zealand bowlers on the final day were Jacob Oram with 3 for 32 off 12 overs, Vettori with 2 for 69 and Jeetan Patel with 1 for 74.

The BlackCaps play another three-day tour match against a Sri Lankan eleven in Colombo, starting on Wednesday.

The first Test of the series starts next Tuesday at Galle.
