A delirious sellout crowd of 32-thousand cheered the great Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar as he finished what may be his final test innings unbeaten on 38 on the opening day of the second test against the West Indies in Mumbai.
Fans at Wankhede stadium in Tendulkar's home town erupted as he went to the crease, walking through a guard of honour created by his West Indian opponents in an emotional farewell at the end of a 24-year career.
The 40 year old had led his team onto the field at the start of the day and the toss took place with a specially minted coin bearing his image on one side.
India dominated the opening day dismissing the West Indies for 182, and finished the day on 157 for 2.
