Herbert urged to consider his All Whites legacy

All Whites coach Ricki Herbert is being urged to consider of his legacy to New Zealand football ahead of what will seemingly be his last match in charge when the All Whites play Mexico in Wellington next Wednesday.

To reach the finals in Brazil next year New Zealand must overcome a four-goal deficit in the second leg of their world cup qualifier, after Thursday's 5-1 loss in Mexico City.

Herbert's contract goes through until the World Cup but former All Whites captain Danny Hay says rather than simply trying to avoid further embarrassment, Herbert needs to take a long term view.

Hay says Herbert needs to forget about the result on Wednesday and give international experience to the likes of young defender Bill Tuiloma and Storm Roux.

Herbert sees things very differently however, and says his sole focus needs to be on Wednesday's game and nothing beyond that.
