Newly-crowned four-time Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel's taken his eighth pole position of the season at the United States Grand Prix, the 28-year-old pipping his veteran Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber with a dramatic last-gasp surge in Austin, Texas.
Webber was looking good to claim his third position in the last four races in qualifying, in his second-last race of a long grand prix career.
But the German had other ideas and stopped the clock 0.103 seconds quicker than the Australian in a scorching final lap at the Circuit of the Americas.
If Vettel wins it'll be the 44th victory of his career and a record eighth straight.
Romain Grosjean was third fastest for the Lotus team ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Sauber and last year's winner, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
