Australian golf star Jason Day is preparing to partner the Masters champion Adam Scott at the World Cup in Melbourne this week in the knowledge that eight of his relatives have died in Typhoon Haiyan.

Day's Filipina mother has told a Queensland newspaper that Jason's grandmother, uncle and six cousins died in the Typhoon, but his mother is encouraging him to focus on representing his country.

Adam Scott said minutes after winning the Australian Masters that he and his fellow Queenslander would win the World Cup, which starts on Thursday at Royal Melbourne.

New Zealand will be represented by Michael Hendry and US-based Tim Wilkinson.
