Australian golf star Jason Day says his mother has done it the toughest since eight members of their Philipino family were killed in Typhoon Haiyan.

Day, who's returned home from the US to play in this week's World Cup at Royal Melbourne and next week's Australian Open at Royal Sydney - lost his grandmother, an uncle and six young cousins in the Philippines disaster which left thousands dead and an estimated three million homeless.

A member of the Chinese World cup team, Lian Wen Chong, announced at the weekend he would donate half the $160,000 he earned from a victory in Manila last week to Typhoon Haiyan victims.
