Tennis world number two Rafael Nadal has finally proven he is back to full fitness after a convincing 6-3 6-2 third round win over Germany's Philipp Petzschner at the Montreal Masters.

This is the Spaniard's first tournament since taking two months off with tendonitis in both knees.

He moves through to the quarter-finals with only one full game under his belt, after fellow Spaniard David Ferrer retired injured in their second round match.

Meanwhile, Scotsman Andy Murray has not yet given up on taking Nadal's number two position after winning his thrid-round match against Juan Carlos Ferrero in straight sets.

Andy Murray will rise to second in the world rankings if he makes it through to the semi-finals and Nadal misses out.

World number one Roger Federer also breezed into the quarter-finals, beating fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3 7-6.
