Herbert rings the changes in lineup and fomation

The All Whites coach Ricki Herbert has made five changes to the side for tonight's match against Mexico, in a last ditch effort to qualify for next year's World Cup in Brazil.

Strikers Shane Smeltz and Marco Rojas come into the starting lineup along with midfielder Chris James, who scored the side's only goal in their 5-1 loss in Mexico last week.

The attacking nature of the line up which will play in a revised 4-4-2 formation is out of character for Herbert who's a defence oriented coach.

But he concedes the need to overcome the four goal deficit has forced his hand.

Young defenders Bill Tuiloma and Storm Roux will both make their first senior starts.

The 18 year-old Tuiloma who's with French club Olympique Marseille has played one international previously while the 20 year old Roux, who plays for the Central Coast Mariners, will be making his senior debut.

Ivan Vicelich, Leo Bertos and Chris Wood were unavailable through suspension, while Jeremy Christie and Tony Lochhead both drop back to the bench.
