Waikato boxer Daniel MacKinnon has been discharged from hospital after undergoing neurosurgery following a fight on the undercard of David Tua's fight against Alexander Ustinov in Hamilton over a week ago.

MacKinnon needed emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain, following his light heavyweight title fight with Robert Berridge in Hamilton.

MacKinnon, was stopped by Berridge in the tenth round of the fight.

The 30-year-old ended the fight on his feet and was able to conduct a post-fight interview in the ring.

But about quarter of an hour later he complained of head pain and was taken to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
