The New Zealand men's hockey coach Shane McLeod has made a couple of suprise selections for next week's Oceania Cup with rising stars Arun Panchia and Joel Baker being named at the expense of the experienced midfielders Dave Kosoof and Casey Henwood.
McLeod says the final call was a hard one saying the selections now give them a new direction in how they manage the centre half role.
New Zealand just completed a series victory over Malaysia.
They play Australia and Samoa in Invercargil next week with the winner qualifying for the World Cup.
