New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the opening test against the West Indies in Dunedin.
Williamson didn't bat at training at University Oval Monday morning and management have decided not to risk his fractured left thumb.
That brings Aaron Redmond into the XI to bat at number three in his first test for the national side in five years.
The spinner Ish Sodhi makes his home debut, while pace bowler Doug Bracewell's 12th man.
