Black Caps favourite to beat Windies

11:46 am on 3 December 2013

The New Zealand cricketers are in the unfamiliar position of being favourites heading into a Test series, as they take on the West Indies in the opening match of the three-Test series in Dunedin today.

The Windies are coming off a series defeat in India and are without a couple of their stars in Chris Gayle and Kemar Roach.

The local conditions should also suit the Black Caps, who haven't won a Test series in two years.

The Black Caps lost Kane Williamson to injury on Monday and he's been replaced by Aaron Redmond.

The spinner Ish Sodhi makes his home debut, with Doug Bracewell the 12th man. Sodhi has never bowled at University Oval.

Brendon McCullum, who is yet to win a Test as captain, says they're playing good cricket, they just need to start putting some results together and that starts now.

The weather forcast for Dunedin is good for the rest of the week.
