Former NZ cricketers being investigated

8:05 am on 5 December 2013

New Zealand Cricket has confirmed that some former New Zealand cricketers are being investigated by the International Cricket Council.

The New Zealand Herald newspaper is reporting that the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit has had investigators in New Zealand in the past few months looking into match-fixing allegations.

New Zealand Cricket says in a statement that a small number of former players are being investigated but says it will not comment further.

The ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit was set up 13 years ago after a major match-fixing scandal involving a number of players including the South African captain Hansie Cronje.

It is headed by a former senior British policeman and its aim is to investigate and prevent corruption.

New Zealand Cricket says in a statement that it's aware of the ICC unit investigating a "small number of former New Zealand cricketers", but as this is an ICC investigation, NZC is unfortunately not able to comment further.
