The national cycling team weren't among the medals on the final day of the UCI World Cup in Mexico, despite Olympic bronze medallist Simon van Velthooven riding the fastest time ever for a New Zealander in the 1000 metre time trial.
Van Velthooven missed out on the medals as he went around in 59.148 seconds. It's also the first time a New Zealander has ridden under the one minute mark.
Such were the speeds and benefits from riding at 10,000ft altitude, the winner Francois Pervis from France broke the world record in the final, clocking an astonishing 56.303 seconds.
Van Velthooven's time only managed eighth place.
Matt Archibald, substituting for Eddie Dawkins in the men's keirin, was involved in a serious accident in his qualifying heat, though he emerged relatively unscathed.
