The New Zealand cricket coach Mike Hesson expects the intensity to rise significantlty in the second Test against the West Indies at the Basin Reserve this week.

The Black Caps have now gone 10 Tests without a win after victory slipped from their hands in a rained-out opening match in Dunedin on Saturday.

The West Indies will have further acclimitised to New Zealand conditions, but Hesson says they've also benefit from the first match.

Hesson says his bowlers will need a rest over the next few days, while they hope to have the injured Kane Williamson available after he played a Hawke Cup match over the weekend.
