Athletics South Africa's president has lashed out at the sports top officials for the gender controversy surrounding the teenage world 800 metres world champion Caster Semenya.
The 18 year old sensation is undergoing a gender test ordered by the International Athletics Federation after she improved her personal best 800 metres time by eight seconds during the last year.
But Athletics South Africa president Leonard Chuene says Semenya's been unjustly humiliated simply for being born the way she is.
Semenya won her gold medal yesterday only hours after the IAAF had announced they had started the gender test procedure.
IAAF officials said they had tried to keep the issue out of the public domain until documents were leaked from a Berlin medical facility.
Other tests had been carried out in a special South African medical centre.
Caster Semenya could keep her world title even if she fails the test because there's a distinction between gender verification and being caught doping.
