The West Indies cricket coach Ottis Gibson says his side had made their own luck in the drawn first Test against New Zealand and are looking to build on their confidence for the rest of the series.

Gibson says they worked hard on the fourth day of the first Test and they felt they earned their bit of good fortune on the final day.

Ahead of the second Test at the Basin Reserve this week Gibson says the New Zealanders will have to play better to beat them.

The West Indies are considering playing a second spinner this week but they say the outcome of an ICC investigation into the actions of Shane Shillingford and part-timer Marlon Samuels, which is due during the Test, may have a bearing.
