Outstanding defence was the key to Southland's 18-9 win over Hawke's Bay in their Air New Zealand Cup rugby match in Invercargill.
Southland scored two unanswered tries and sealed victory with a 50-metre penalty goal by 19-year-old fullback Robbie Robinson four minutes from the end.
Hawkes Bay led 9-5 at half-time, but Southland took the lead soon after with a try to David Hall and shut out a determined Bay side from scoring for the rest of the game.
