Shane Cameron's boxing career could be over after the New Zealander lost his comeback fight to the American Brian Minto in a technical knockout in West Auckland.

Cameron's return to the heavyweight ranks didn't go as planned, a cut eye resulting in the 36-year-old being unable to come out for the eighth round of their WBO Oriental title bout.

It was rugby league's day on the undercard of the Fight For Life event, with the Cronulla Sharks captain Paul Gallen edging All Black flanker Liam Messam on points in their bout, while another Chiefs star, Ben Tameifuna, lost to Brisbane Broncos veteran Sam Thaiday, also on points.

Chris Cairns won his fight against fellow former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull, while the bout between journalist Steve Kilgallon and Sky TV presenter Stephen McIvor ended in a draw.
