New Super Rugby format some way off being finalised

The chief executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union Steve Tew says a new format for Super Rugby is some way off being confirmed.

The current broadcast deal expires at the end of the 2015 season and a new deal will be in place for 2016.

South Africa wants a sixth team in the competition, while the New Zealand union is keen to get Argentina involved.

Tew says they have to present a new proposal to broadcasters in June and they'll need all that time to consider the many format options, including number of teams, conferences and finals series.

Meanwhile Tew says financial forecasts from the 26 provincial unions is that they will all make some sort of profit this year.
