England coach McNamara to join Sydney Roosters

5:44 pm on 14 December 2013

Steve McNamara will remain head coach of the England national rugby league team, despite being appointed assistant coach of Australian NRL title-holders the Sydney Roosters.

McNamara, who led England to the semi-finals of the Rugby League World Cup last month, will remain in that position part-time as well as working alongside Roosters coach Trent Robinson.

He says it's always been an ambition of his to coach in the NRL.

The NRL begins in early March while England's next matches will be as part of the 2014 Four Nations tournament in Australia and New Zealand in October.
