Phoenix lose to Roar

The Wellington Phoenix remain winless in Australian football's A-League after a 2-1 home defeat to the top side, the Brisbane Roar, at Westpac Stadium.

Carlos Hernandez's 48th minute penalty equaliser was for the Phoenix was in vain as Ivan Franjic lashed home the matchwinner on 74 minutes for the Roar, following Matthew Smith's opener eight minutes before half-time.

Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick says he believes his side is not out of the A-League playoffs race yet but concedes they will be if they don't start scoring goals.

Adelaide United trounced reigning A-League champions Central Coast Mariners 4-0, while Western Sydney halted their winless streak with a 1-0 victory over the visiting Newcastle Jets.
