Super Rugby champions the Chiefs have ruled out a long-mooted friendly against European champions Toulon.
In a statement, the Chiefs said both parties put extensive work into playing the match, but were not able to get the required approvals from their national bodies.
The Chiefs chief executive Andrew Flexman says the Toulon match was contingent on the Super Rugby team being able to take a full strength squad inculding its All Blacks.
He says the Chiefs have not ruled out playing matches off-shore in the future.
