Wimbledon tennis champion Andy Murray, the first British winner of the men's title for 77 years, has been named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
The British & Irish Lions rugby union side were named team of the year following their victory in Australia, while their coach, the New Zealander Warren Gatland, was named coach of the year.
Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel of Germany claimed the overseas personality of the year prize.
