Henrik Stenson has been named the European Tour's Golfer of the Year after a stunning campaign highlighted by winning the multi-million dollar season-ending finales on both the US and European tours.

37-year-old Stenson, the first Swede to win the European award, won his first title 12 years ago, but he's since endured two career slumps, the latter of which in 2011 dropped him to 230th in the world rankings.

He'll start the New Year at number three behind Tiger Woods and Adam Scott.
