Player power has won out at the A-league football club Perth Glory whose coach Alistair Edwards has been sensationally sacked after becoming embroiled in a bitter feud with the team's senior members.
Glory hope to appoint an interim coach quickly after firing Edwards just one season into his three-year deal following a player revolt.
Tensions at the club reached a flashpoint last Friday night when Edwards and his captain Jacob Burns became involved in a heated argument after the Glory skipper was left on the bench in his team's 2-0 loss to Melbourne Victory.
Senior players had become increasingly frustrated over Edwards' team selections, including a perceived nepotism towards his two sons Cameron and Ryan.
Despite his role in the turmoil, Burns is set to remain as captain.
