Batsman Virat Kohli made a century as India's cricketers reached 255 for five at stumps on the opening day of the first test against South Africa in Johannesburg.

Kohli played the role of anchor for India, who won the toss and chose to bat. He helped the tourists to 164 for four at tea at the Wanderers, before falling for 119 late in the day.

India were 70 for two at lunch.

Four Proteas bowlers shared the wickets, with Morne Morkel's one for 27 the meanest.
