5:28 pm on 29 December 2013

Australia have won the fourth Ashes Test in Melbourne by eight wickets keeping alive their hopes of a series clean sweep.

Chasing 231 for the win, the hosts resumed their second innings on day four at 30 without loss and scored freely throughout the day, opener Chris Rogers hit 116 and Shane Watson was unbeaten on 83.

Snaring the wicket of the opener David Warner for 25 was the only bright spot for England who were disappointing in the field on day four dropping catches and leaking runs.

The Australian pace bowler Mitchell Johnson was named man of the match after taking eight wickets including five in the first innings.

Australia lead the five match series four-nil, with the final test starting in Sydney on Friday.
