Big battle looming for NBL finals spots

It's going to be a close-fought battle for finals spots during the coming weeks as Australia's National Basketball League competition reaches the halfway stage.

Perth remain the clear leaders with 12 wins from 14 games, while Adelaide is two wins behind in second place.

Melbourne has stamped its mark on third place with eight wins, but all of the other five NBL teams are still in the running for the finals.

The three-time defending champion New Zealand Breakers are currently in sixth spot with five wins from 14 matches, but both Sydney and Cairns have only five victories to their names as well.

The number of games played is all that separates those three sides.
