The former Warriors rugby league player Russell Packer has been sentenced to two years in prison for an assault in central Sydney last year.
The 24-year-old prop pleaded guilty to charges which followed a fight outside a venue in November.
The incident left a 22-year-old man unconscious with a fractured eye socket.
Packer played 110 games for the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL, but signed a contract in October last year to join the Newcastle Knights.
But the NRL has refused to register his contract.
