The New Zealand number one tennis player says being the lone local player in the country's sole international men's tournament brings unfair pressure.
Rubin Statham bemoans there are not more tournaments to support this week's Heineken Open and last week's Auckland women's Classic.
He says being in the spotlight once a year is tough.
Rubin Statham will play a first round match against Slovakian qualifier Lucas Lacko first up on centre court this afternoon.
Statham will later partner compatriot Michael Venus in first round doubles action.
