The third-seeded American tennis player, John Isner, overcame both a plucky qualifier and a nagging ankle injury to book his quarter-final place at Auckland's Heineken Open.
The 208-centimetre tall Isner came into the tournament under an injury cloud, but the 28-year-old says he's determined to battle through the pain.
Isner says he will spend the rest of the evening icing his foot, and is confident he'll be ready to compete against the fifth seed, Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber tomorrow.
